ABOUT THE TOAD FISH

The Toad Fish Story

From the scrap heap of a "by gone era" the Toad Fish Bar & Grill has risen up from the remnants of the grand old establishment known as the "Pinehurst Supper Club".

After decades of being one of our areas premier landmarks of social gathering, dining, drinking, music and dancing, the Pinehurst had fallen on somewhat less then its "regal days" and appearance of the past. Stories from some of our more colorful senior citizens, of days gone by, tell of a time when country music icon Hank Williams, Sr. made the Pinehurst one of his regular stops on his legendary "barnstorming bus tours" in the late 40s and early 50s.

A group made up mostly of local childhood friends, neighbors and myself, powered by a dream and common goals set out to reguild and restore this once beautiful tavern. Thus was born the "Toad Fish Bar & Grill". Everyone asks about the name. I admit it; I have spent more time catching Toad Fish (a.k.a. oyster crackers, see them yourself in our fish tank) on the Delaware Bay than any of the other fine species of fish listed on our leader board, so I figured it was appropriate for our area.

With a very focused work ethic, the team went to work to recapture as much of the old style and architecture as possible, while adding the newest in modern conveniences and comforts. The restoration took over a year, down to the finest details, such as collecting hundreds of classic local photos and odds & ends to enhance the interior ambience. The most painstaking task was restoring the original Pinehurst bar, which proudly stands where it has for almost a century.

One thing that is certain is that the group's drive and ambition to make the Toad Fish a reality, while trying to blend the "old past" and "a very modern new" has paid off. Every time a new patron leaves with a smile, or when one of our area seniors drops by to share a memory or story, our efforts are truly realized as being worthwhile.

With the completion of construction and staffing of a new kitchen, floor and bar staff to proudly serve its patrons, the Toad Fish opened its doors to the public. A "country cabaret" attitude blend fine and innovative food and a casual, yet technologically advanced setting; award winning chef, great spirits served up by a well-trained service staff; wrapped around the finest in music, entertainment and special events that are certain to start a new era of tradition, matching those great days and nights that its proud ancestor, the Pinehurst Supper Club, had given to so many patrons in the past!

I would like to give a special thanks to all of those who helped make this dream a reality and to our patrons who allow us to continue to improve on our experience. Welcome to the Toad Fish, where tradition continues and grows!! We aim to please, thanks for coming, we're glad you're here!!
